Hello, COCDA Membership!
As we all know, this year is a unique one in terms of auditions, festivals, and conventions. We as the COCDA board have evaluated all angles when discussing our
auditions this year, and we have come to a consensus: in-person, live auditions are just not feasible this year, due to the fact that most large high schools are reluctant to host a large group of
auditioning students right now, and due also to the fact that many districts are virtual. and therefore unable to attend live auditions. Therefore, we have come up with a solution: for the 2020/2021
school year only, COCDA will use the OCDA and OkMEA First Round Scores to select the COCDA Honor Choirs. Any student whose teacher enters them as a COCDA participant and who progresses to the
2nd round of their junior high or high school all state audition will automatically be accepted into a COCDA Honor Choir.
You will not need to pay an audition fee this year; instead, you will receive a Google Form in the near future, on which you will indicate if you would like students
from your school to be considered for COCDA. If you affirm that you would like your students to be considered, we will automatically place any of your students who qualify into a COCDA choir. You
will not need to register individual students. Please spread the word to any new teachers who you think might not be on this email list, and also give us the emails of any teacher who may be new to
COCDA, so that we can get this information to everyone.
We also realize that it will probably not be possible for us to have a festival in October. Therefore, as a board we have decided that we will move our festival to
the spring in the hope that we will be able to hold our festival at that time. If we are able to have a festival, any students who participate will need to pay their participation fee just like
normal, but we won't start collecting those fees until we're reasonably certain that we will be able to hold a festival.
Please know that the board thought long and hard before coming to this decision, and finally decided that this was the most equitable solution for all. We want all
of our COCDA students to be as successful as they can be. Please feel free to email us at any point with any questions or concerns.
